Cosplay Odyssey: Japan 2012

About

This blog was made to document the adventures of the UK’s very first World Cosplay Summit team on their trip to Japan, including all the parades, press conferences, parties and of course – the World Cosplay Summit Championship itself.

We’ll also be reporting on other cosplay events and attractions while we’re out in Japan, including one of the country’s largest cosplay emporiums and summer Comiket. Let’s support Team GB at the World Cosplay Summit!

World Cosplay Summit

The World Cosplay Summit (or WCS for short) is an event organised annually in Nagoya, Japan to promote friendly exchange between cosplayers of different nationalities. With cosplayers from 21 countries currently taking part and support from three Japanese government ministries, the event has gained worldwide recognition.

HYPER JAPAN

The host event for the WCS UK preliminaries is HYPER JAPAN (also the UK’s largest Japanese culture and food event). The next WCS preliminary will take place at HYPER JAPAN Christmas at London’s Earls Court from 23-25th November 2012, and is open pairs of cosplayers aged 18 or over who are resident in the UK or have a UK passport. If you would like to take part in WCS 2013 or just want more info on HYPER JAPAN’s cosplay events, please visit the HJ Cosplay HQ Facebook and Twitter pages.

WCS Team UK

WCS Team UKEngineer Alexandra Rutter and costume designer Laura Sindall became the UK’s first WCS representatives when they entered the preliminary round at HYPER JAPAN Spring 2012. A panel of international cosplay judges picked them after they impressed the audience with their detailed costumes and performance. Lex and Laura say they are very excited about going to Japan and taking part in this unique event!
